What is Grounding and How do you Know if you are Grounded?
You might have heard people talk about the importance of being grounded or being reminded to ground your energy. But what are they actually telling you to do? What does it mean to be grounded?
Grounding is a process that helps your physical body connect to the earth’s energy. The earth is like a giant battery that contains a natural subtle electric charge.
It allows you to be more authentically in your body, in the present moment and to absorb the healing energy of the earth. You are more focused on the here and now and not the past or future. Grounding helps you balance out your energy by getting rid of the excess energy that you don’t need.
Some signs and symptoms of not being grounded:
Inability to focus or concentrate
Easily distracted
Feeling anxious
Forgetful
Feeling powerless or unsafe
Easily aggravated
Feeling physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually exhausted
Feeling scattered
Difficulty in communication
More clumsy than normal
Misplacing things
Feeling overwhelmed
When you are grounded you feel:
Centered
Solid
Balanced
Relaxed
Calm
Worry free
How to Ground
Eat root vegetables. Some examples are; beets, radish, turnip, parsnip, carrots, sweet potato, ginger, garlic, and turmeric.
Connect with nature. Go for a walk in the forest or on a beach.
Walk barefoot on the earth.
Spend time gardening. Get your hands in the earth.
Take a salt bath. My favourite is a combination of Epsom salts and Himalayan salt mixed with a few drops of essential oils.
Have a Reiki session.
Meditate. I find guided grounding meditations for grounding very helpful.
Crystals. The best crystals to use to ground your energy are usually black, such as Black Tourmaline, Hematite, Black Kyanite, Shungite and Black Obsidian. However, Petrified Wood and Smokey Quartz are also excellent grounding stones.
