Friday the 13th’s connection to Divine Feminine Energy
Up until recently, I believed that Friday the 13th was a ‘bad luck’ day or a day to be extra cautious. It was only when my daughter asked me why this day is considered a day to be fearful, that I dove a little deeper into its meaning.
Did you know before patriarchal times, Friday the 13th was considered the day to celebrate feminine energy? It was considered a day to honour the Divine Feminine, the goddess that lives in us all and to honour the cycles of creation, death and rebirth.
According to Gary Waite, a professor of early modern history at the University of New Brunswick, it was only in the 19th century that people started to become fearful of Friday the 13th.
How did this day turn into a bad luck day?
There is a theory that the superstition around 13 has to do with there being 13 disciples at the last supper the night before Jesus’ death on Good Friday. At the Last Supper, 12 apostles dined with Jesus Christ at his last meal. The 13th apostle was Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.
Then there is the theory revolving around a Norse myth. Twelve Gods gathered for a dinner party and the uninvited trickster God Loki came (making it now 13 people at this party), ruined the party and plunged the world into darkness.
Friday is the day of the week that Eve offered the ‘forbidden fruit’ to Adam.
And in Britain, Friday was known as Hangman’s Day because that was the day he carried out his duties.
Friday the 13th and Feminine energy
Each day of the week is associated with a plant. Friday is connected to Venus, the planet of love and creativity. Venus energy encourages us to tune into our female energy so we can move into our creativity and bring art, music and healing into the world.
The name Friday comes from Old English and means “day of Frigg”. Frigg is the Norse goddess of love, fertility, and motherhood. She is often seen as the same being as Freya, the goddess of beauty, fertility, sex, and war.
In numerology, 13 represents change. The Number 13 also holds extremely powerful feminine energy. It is symbolic of death and rebirth, creation, fertility, and blood. We also have 13 Moon cycles every year. The average female also has 13 periods per year.
The moon is associated with feminine energy and is connected to and helps us understand our emotions and intuition.
Friday the 13th is not an unlucky day. It is a day of the Goddess. It is a powerful day to manifest, celebrate creativity, wisdom, and beauty and honour yourself. It is a day to tune in to your emotions and intuition. To celebrate life and give thanks to the Goddess that lives within all of us.
