The Word I’m Embracing This Year

Choosing a word for the year has become one of my favourite practices. It’s not just about picking a trendy term or something that sounds good. It’s about choosing a word that will act as a guide, offering support and direction as the year unfolds. I’ve been doing this for a few years now, and each word has brought its own unique lessons and growth.

Last year, my word was gusto. It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and gave me the courage to say "yes" to things that scared me but were necessary for my growth. Whenever I felt uncertain or hesitant, the word gusto was like a gentle nudge that encouraged me to move forward. It helped me show up more fully, and it became my permission slip to be bold.

Now, here we are in 2025, and my word for this year is nourish.

At first, I wasn’t entirely sure how nourish would show up for me. The word felt soft and gentle, which made me wonder how it would push me the way gusto did. But then, after sitting with it for a while and asking for guidance, it all clicked. Nourish is not just about taking care of my physical body. It’s about tuning in to what my mind, body, and soul need. It’s about giving myself permission to slow down, listen, and focus on what truly aligns with my values.

I’ve spent so much of my life running on autopilot, doing things because I felt like I had to or because I thought I was supposed to. But this year, it’s different. Nourish is all about saying "yes" to the things that nourish me. It’s a reminder that I don’t have to keep up with anyone else’s pace. There’s no race. No competition. I can take things at my own speed and make space for what truly fills me up.

In my personal life, nourish means focusing on my health and well-being. As a mom to two teenage girls, I’m in a season of life where my body, mind, and emotions need extra attention. I’m navigating perimenopause, PCOS, alopecia, and the challenges that come with these changes. This word is a gentle reminder that I need to listen to my body more and honour its signals, whether that’s taking time to rest when I’m tired or saying no to things that don’t serve me. I want to model self-care for my daughters, showing them the importance of nurturing themselves too.

On a professional level, nourish is showing up in a big way. In my business, it’s not just about nourishing my energy, intuition, and connection with the Akashic Records. It’s also about nourishing the relationships and collaborations that align with my values and goals. This year, I want to say "yes" to the experiences and opportunities that truly nourish my soul. That means tuning in to what feels exciting, aligned, and energizing, and letting go of anything that feels draining or out of sync.

In the past, I’ve sometimes said "yes" to opportunities out of a sense of obligation or fear of missing out. But this year, I’m committed to listening to my inner voice more. If something doesn’t feel nourishing, whether it’s a project, collaboration, or even a conversation, I’m learning to walk away. I’m learning that saying "no" is just as important as saying "yes."

Nourish is also about connecting with people who lift me up, those who inspire me, challenge me in healthy ways, and support my journey. I want to nourish relationships that are mutually fulfilling and aligned with my values. This year is about focusing on what truly matters and surrounding myself with those who support my growth, rather than feeling obligated to say "yes" to everyone and everything.

Most of all, nourish is a reminder that I don’t have to rush. I’m not competing with anyone. I’m going at my own pace. This year is about trusting the process and being patient with myself. I want to allow space for creativity, flow, and ease, trusting that everything will fall into place when the timing is right.

Choosing Your Word with Intuition

Picking a word for the year isn’t about brainstorming or overthinking, it’s about listening. It’s an opportunity to tune into your intuition, connect with your spirit guides, or ask your higher self for guidance. If you’re not sure how to do that, don’t worry. Here’s a simple and supportive way to let your word come to you.

Create a calm space
Start by finding a quiet moment. Sit somewhere that feels cozy and peaceful. You might light a candle, hold a crystal, or do whatever helps you feel grounded and at ease.

Take a few deep breaths
Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let yourself settle. Imagine each breath clearing away the clutter of the day and creating space for clarity.

Set your intention
When you feel centered, speak from the heart. You could say something like, “Ok team, I would like your support. Please tell me in a way that I clearly understand a word I can use as my anchor for this year. A word that aligns with my highest self and my path.” You are opening the door for your intuition, spirit guides, or higher self to gently step in.

Be open to what comes through
This is where you let go and listen. Maybe a word pops into your mind right away, or maybe it feels like a whisper, an image, or even a sensation. If nothing comes immediately, trust that it will show up when the time is right.

Notice the signs
Over the next few days, keep an eye out for repeated words or themes. Sometimes your word might come through a conversation, a book, or even a random thought. Stay curious and open and it will find you.

Welcome your word
Once your word feels clear, take a moment to connect with it. Write it down, say it out loud, or create something visual to remind you of it. Let it feel like a companion on your journey for the year ahead.

A Guided Experience

If you’re looking for a little extra support, I’ve put together a free meditation to help you connect with your higher self and gain clarity on the word (or words) that will guide you this year. It’s a simple, calming way to quiet the noise and let your inner wisdom lead the way. You can find all the details here.

I’m so curious. What word is calling to you this year? How does it feel to sit with it and let it guide you forward? I’d love to hear how you’re planning to let your word support you in the months ahead.
